About the Project:
St. Paul Catholic Church is a built manual on the creative and functional use of brick. It was a challenge to match the existing high quality use of brick, including integration of new elements with the church’s interiors by matching the brick shapes, colors and details. A gas fired brick was selected to match the existing hand made coal fired brick and was stained and lacquered to match the two brick colors. Six profiles of the existing bricks were measured and drawn for custom production of the new brick; and the existing brickwork composition was studied in section and elevation and replicated in the new base coursing of the stair and elevator enclosures and in the brick arches over the new doors. The resulting design is a seamless integration with this historic church that continues to inspire parishioners and visitors alike.
