DePaul College Prep is a Catholic co-ed high school in Chicago that was originally constructed as Gordon Tech in the 1960’s and consists of 11 buildings and over 200,000 s.f. of educational space. Over the last twenty years the school’s facilities have grown outdated and enrollment has steadily declined. In an effort to revitalize the school and re-establish Gordon Tech as a strong, Catholic high school of choice on Chicago’s north side, DePaul University established a partnership with Gordon Tech and commissioned JNKA to develop this master plan for renovating and modernizing the school’s facilities, including exterior design improvements that incorporate new exterior windows, doors, Trespa wall panels, and metal shading devices, as well as new landscaping, paving, and signage. A new monumental entrance to the school with a central lobby and elevator were also designed to provide a prominent main entrance to the school while also making the building handicap accessible.
