Project Description

Located adjacent to the University of Notre Dame’s campus, the Windmoor Study Center is a new 23,000 s.f., three-story Opus Dei center that provides a new 16 bed residence with a family atmosphere and spiritual formation for men and students at Notre Dame. JNKA was commissioned to design the new 1350 s.f. oratory for the center, which uses a similar Arts & Crafts style as the rest of the building to create a simple but noble chapel for private prayer, daily Mass, and other spiritual activities. The design features a two-story volume articulated by seven bays of wood trim framing three dormers with clerestory windows and Stations of the Cross along the side aisles. Larger horizontal wood members direct the attention to the Sanctuary with its stone wall, centrally located tabernacle, and large wood-framed triptych featuring custom painted images of Holy Mary Seat of Wisdom, St. Peter and St. Paul. JNKA also designed the liturgical furnishings for the oratory, including the ambo, altar and reliquary in the base of the altar.
