To celebrate its 125th anniversary, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish commissioned JNKA to design a variety of accessibility improvements and renovations to their existing church. The Sanctuary was renovated to accommodate a new handicap ramp and features a new marble platform with a custom designed marble altar and pulpit, new lighting, and a new polychromatic color scheme with traditional Gothic style stencil patterns. The original exterior entrance stair was demolished and replaced by a new code compliant stair with an integral handicap accessible ramp that features decorative concrete with granite chips, ornamental fencing and custom designed stone pillars that replicate details of the original stairway. The original wood entrance doors and custom hardware were repaired and restored; the Narthex was remodeled with new porcelain tile flooring; a new handicap accessible bathroom was constructed off the Narthex in the base of the south bell tower; and the south transept was converted to a handicap accessible Reconciliation Room.
